President's Corner: Updates & Reflections

Happy Summer!

As we look forward to the new season, SDHEA has some exciting events planned for 2024.

The SDHEA board has been diligently working on various tasks and activities, and we are thrilled to share them with you!

Reflecting on Spring 2024.

This spring, we hosted several professional development webinars, including sessions on Victim Advocacy, Artificial Intelligence, and Ungrading to Motivate Students. You can find more details and recordings at mysdhea.org/webinars.

In May the board met to discuss several important topics. We were excited to announce some conference scholarships we are offering to graduate students. We have eight scholarships to be used in defraying the expenses for the conference. We also reduced the cost of the conference fee for graduate students.  The board also decided to extend institutional membership until 2025 to better align with fiscal year decisions.

Looking ahead to Fall 2024.

As we approach the fall, planning for the SDHEA 2024 conference is in full swing. Registration for the October 02-03 conference in Rapid City at Western Dakota Technical College is open with an October 1 social hosted by the SDHEA Past Presidents for all conference participants to attend. Hotels can be reserved for the state rate, with a September 01 deadline.  After September 1st the rate will be the hotel’s standard rate.

Watch for announcements to come out concerning the call for the Annual SDHEA awards given at the conference. Please think about who you might want to nominate for these awards when the call is sent. Also, don’t forget about preparing and donating those wonderful items to the Conference Silent Auction.  I believe we all look forward to the excitement some of those items bring to the conference.

I hope you all have a great summer and have an opportunity to enjoy some downtime.
